Sue Hovemeyer
Sue was one of the influential women in my formative years. I spent many days in her home, and have memories of children and books everywhere! Thanks to her I know in my bones that comfrey, echinacea, and elderberry can cure a great many things!
I had the great pleasure to spend the afternoon with Sue recently. Over a delicious cup of herbal tea with honey, I soaked in as much of her knowledge as I could - including the difference between wood nettle, stinging nettle, and purple dead nettle; an excellent alternative to cheese cloth when straining things like elderberries (men’s handkerchiefs! You can just wash and reuse and they don’t break down!); and she gave me some Black Cohosh Root for hot flashes, which I will now be taking daily!
I could have stayed for hours! And I will be knocking on her door again soon, notebook and pen in hand to record more from her life time of herbal wisdom!
Sue is a retired Hebrew midwife from Appalachia. She now spends her days growing herbs and making wellness teas and tinctures, and teaching the occasional workshop. You can visit her Facebook page here.
